Christmas
season in rural Philippines is filled with traditions. Christmas trees…light
show…fireworks…local delicacies, and Christmas characters. Bring the family and bundle up in your
favorite Christmas Park in the province of Iloilo.
Christmas
in the Park is an annual holiday tradition that takes place in many
municipalities in the province of Iloilo. For many years, this whimsical event
has brought people from all over Iloilo together during the holidays.
Each
year, municipal parks are transformed into a holiday fantasy with many musical
and animated exhibits, glittering lights and huge Community Giving Trees. Visitors
can enter a winter wonderland of lights, songs and local entertainment while
strolling through trees decorated by community groups and businesses partners.
IWAG Festival of Lights of the Muncipality of Pototan will celebrate
its 18th year with its colorful display of Christmas lights landscaping
the whole of its Municipal Plaza starting December 16 till January 2, 2015, Monday
through Sunday from 6 p.m. till 10 in the evening. This annual spectacle is considered to be the best
holiday light show in the region.

DISYEMBRE
SA GUIMBAL, now on its 39th year will open on December 16 – 25 with
a Food Festival and Agro Fair at the Municipal Plaza with daily activities
starting with a Grand Parade at 4 p.m., Opening Program and Switching-on of
Lights at 7 p.m., and LGU Kapuso Night with guest artists Kylie Pasilla and
Derrick Monasterio; December 17 at 8 p.m. with the Search for Mr. and Miss Teen
Guimbal; December 18 featuring Kultura, a cultural show by Guimbal Performing
Arts and Sikat Kang Guimbal by DepEd
Elementary; December 19 will have Bloodletting at 8 a.m. at the RPGTM Hospital,
Bongga ka Tay, Bongga ka Nay at 8 p.m.; December 20 at 8 p.m. will feature
Gandang Lalaki Kuma-Career; December 21 at 8 p.m. will have Macho Gwapita;
December 22 will have Drum Corps Competition at 1 p.m. and the Search for Super
Mama at 8 p.m.; December 23 opens will the Search for Bb. Disyembre sa Guimbal;
December 24 at 8 p.m. will have JESUS, the Reason for the Season; December 25
at 8 p.m. opens with Disco Derby.
LIGHT-A-TREE
PROGRAM of the Municipality of Oton will be open to the public on December
15-20, 2014 with activities that include
a Christmas display through Christmas Around the World at the Municipal Plaza at 6
p.m.; December 16 will showcase Dance Revo at 6 p.m.; December 17 highlights
the DepEd Fun Night (Public and Private Elementary) at 6 p.m.; December 18 will
have the Search for Batang Idol 2014 at 6 p.m.;
December 19 is Gift-Giving at the Heritage Lagoon at 1 p.m. and Zumba
Party at the Gym at 5 p.m. and the Chorale Group Presentation at the plaza at 6 p.m. ; December 20 shines brighter
with the Search for Singing Star 2014 at 6 p.m.
FESTIVAL
OF LIGHTS, an annual Christmas park celebration of the Municipality of Janiuay
will open on December 15 at 6 p.m. at the Janiuay Public Plaza. Daily
activities until December 22 will showcase cultural presentations and food
festival.
PASKWA
HALAD SA BANWA of the Municipality of Mina will celebrate its annual Christmas
Showcase on December 15-23, 2014 with its ceremonial lighting and opening
program on December 15 (Monday) at the Municipal Grandstand. Street dancing
will start at 5 p.m. with the ceremony of the opening at 6 p.m.
PASKWA
SA PAROKYA 2014 of the Municipality of Igbaras will be highlighted with its MKK
Christmas Tree Contest with the judging on December 23 at 5 p.m. at the Parish
Church grounds and on December 24 will feature the Daigon Contest at the
covered gymnasium.
Besides
the Christmas Park activities, there is so much to see and do in the area where
visitors will not have to travel far to enjoy a wide variety of natural and
historical attractions each town has to offer.
